During the Victorian era (1837—1901), to avoid future dental costs and have a wife with a perfect smile, husbands required new brides to have ALL their teeth pulled out and replaced with dentures.
Even if a bride had a perfectly healthy smile, her teeth would still be extracted to avoid any future spending.
Victorian dentures were ghastly and often made from the teeth of dead soldiers whose bodies were dishonored on the battlefield.

Graves were also robbed for teeth.
Barbaric!
