The coldest inhabited place on Earth is Oymyakon – “The Pole of Cold”.
The valley of Oymyakon in Yakutia (northeast Russia) in the Oymyakon valley is located 750 metres above sea level and the length of a day varies from 3 hours in winter to 21 hours in summer. It’s so cold that even alcohol freezes. January has an average temperature of -50C.
More that 500 people live in this seemingly uninhabitable environment.
