58-year-old Albert Stevens was admitted to UCSFMC in 1945 with a severe gastric ulcer that was misdiagnosed as terminal cancer.
On May 10, 1945, Stevens was secretly administered the largest dose of plutonium any human has ever received; just under one microgram.
The sample consisted of two isotopes of plutonium. Stevens was then given free medical care under false pretense so that they could continue secretly testing the results of the radiation. His health deteriorated over time as the plutonium weakened his spinal column, and as his eyes fogged up with cataracts.
The doctors periodically operated on Stevens under false pretense to remove parts of his liver, spleen, pancreas, and lymph nodes for testing.
Nobody ever told him or his family about the plutonium he was exposed to. Stevens absorbed more radiation than any other human being; 6,400 rem, or 60 times the government’s maximum safe lifetime exposure.
Turns out, nothing is ever free.

Too bad many will never learn…until it’s too late…for them. I wonder if he thanked the doctors at first, for being so “altruistic”.

I wonder if they went after the doctors after they found out.
I wonder if the government was funding it.
I also wonder why there’s no outrage from all those decent people in politics, religion and activist groups.

Their too decent to leave their fundraising to pursue justice!

I had a full head x-ray (I don’t know the proper term) and ever since I have had bad rosacea on my cheeks (around where my sinuses are). I know I sound like a tin-foil hat guy, and that’s how I was treated when I brought it up at their office.
Alcohol, stress, coffee, etc ate contributing factors for rosacea (I partake in all three) but nothing in my environment has changed… Except the x-ray about a week before my skin problems started. Could be a coincidence but I will always wonder.

You Stated — “Could be a coincidence but I will always wonder.”
My Response — There is no such thing as coincidence. Go with you gut and find the truth.

I wanted to laugh at your first, top comment but, I retract the thought. That is scary. Been to a dermatologist?

You can laugh. I don’t mind.

It was amusing but, that must be scary. You develop a skin condition after an x-ray?

It wasn’t immediate…it probably started within a week. Most likely just a conincidence. I have not found much online in the way of direct association between skin conditions and dental x-ray.

Hmmm…🤔
I had an ex that had rosacea. He claimed that it was due to the local water. I always thought it came from wine/beer additives. 🧐

I think this very story was covered in Melissa & Aaron Dykes Minds of Men documentary:
