Christians, Buddhists, Scientologists, and many more can now worship in the same place via the new Pray-O-Mat machine. Instead of waiting for a service at a local church or temple, worshippers can now use the ‘Pray-o-mat’ machine and save time.

Use touch screen menus to select from up to 300 pre-recorded prayers and incantations in 65 different languages. As well as the Lords Prayer, there are Buddhist and Islamic benedictions; Aborigine devotional songs, Voodoo blessings, Scientology, and solemn chanting of an orthodox Jewish congregation.

Created by German artist Oliver Sturm, the booth is free to use. The conversion of the German ‘Gebetomat’ into the English ‘Pray-o-mat’ was partly supported by the Goethe-Institut, London and was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The ‘Pray-o-mat’ has now spread to the University of Manchester home of a large, three-year research project on multi-faith spaces. It is also being prepped for a UK rollout.

The project is described as being ‘tongue in cheek’ but has a serious message and will allow people of different faiths to worship in the same place. What started as art is morphing into a possible reality.

  1. Haha. Works great! I tried one at the Frankfurt train station, and sure enough, it worked like all the best prayers without near the effort. No dirty knees either. Very clean facility. 5 ⭐️s

    • Technically it’s free to use but accepts donations.

Where do the donations go is the question?

      • Why not just pray and celebrate everywhere? Is religion so shameful and looked down upon that these people are afraid to pray in public?

        • I don’t think it has anything to do with shame.

This is simply technology rolling forward.

The same thing that happened to Blockbuster is simply happening to church.

Blockbuster went from dominating with physical buildings to failing due to RedBox taking over and now online streaming is taking over from RedBox.

People are leaving churches (physical buildings) and moving on to a more convenient solution. (Nothing Personal). I don’t think anyone is thinking about shame or even cares if people see them or not, they are just busy and have a more modern position on God.
