Transcending Twins

Jim L. and Jim S., (genetically identical twins), were separated at birth and then reunited at age 39. The twin boys were adopted by different families and unaware of each other’s existence.

  • Both married women named Linda
    • Both Divorced
  • Both re-married women named Betty

  • Both had been christened James by their adoptive parents.
  • Both had sons whom:
    • one was named James Alan
    • the other was named James Allan
  • Both owned dogs which they named Toy

There is more to this story that speaks to the genetic similarities of the lives of these twins but I want to focus on the items above which transcend genetics.

Think about the number of moving parts in a person’s life that need to fall into place for two twins to marry someone with the same name and then divorce and re-marry with the same name a second time.

Think about the unique process of finding names and then realize that at each level they perfectly match for final choices, despite the variables that plagued the possibilities of doing so. These twins defy probability at almost every turn, they defy the laws that govern our state of normality.

These are the kind of challenges to our view of reality that makes it possible for our minds to reach for new understandings.

  1. Twins are uncanny! Have you ever heard of or studied mirror image twins? Most of the knowledge I have about twins comes from watching documentaries on YouTube. Twins are fascinating I think. I have wished strongly at times that I could have had a twin. I’m a Gemini.

    • I had not heard of them before. My studies of twins have only been at the supernaturalism level. I have not taken a closer look at the physical wonders they display. I’m adding the definition below for anyone else who doesn’t know about them.

Mirror image twins are monozygotic, twins that form from a single fertilized egg. When the split occurs late – more than a week after conception – the twins can develop reverse asymmetric features. This term is not really a type of twin, just a way to describe their physical features. For example, they may be right- and left-handed, have birthmarks on opposite sides of their body, or have hair whorls that swirl in opposite directions.

In theory, if the twins faced each other, they would appear to be exact reflections of each other. About 25% of identical twins are mirror image twins.

      • Here is what I think is hilarious Encounter of baby boy twins telling jokes to each other.

Even more amazing I think is identical quintuplets. This must be a single cell that splits four ways!!? Sure is one of the funniest videos on YouTube!!
